PARK X CROSSFIELD UNVEIL NEW WORK TO REVITALIZE DOWNTOWN

If you’ve visited the town of Crossfield lately, you may have noticed a bit of extra vibrance lining the streets of downtown. That’s because PARK teamed up with Crossfield as part of the town’s downtown revitalization project for a series of lively new banners featuring the artwork of Cree artist and former Crossfield resident, Delree Dumont, to hang on light posts along mainstreet.

The artwork features Dumont’s signature style of pointillism to showcase the western and agricultural elements that the town has built itself on – from golden wheat and spirited horses, to the grandiose rocky mountains and the iconic Canadian Pacific Railway. The designs include all-new work created exclusively for the town of Crossfield, as well as a small selection of Dumont’s previous works that bring new life to downtown, all the while staying true to its roots.

Next time you’re in need of weekend plans, take a mini road trip and make your way to Crossfield to check out the banners along mainstreet, hit up the local farmers market, and explore everything the town has to offer!

DELREE DUMONT

After working in the oil and gas industry for 32 years, Delree Dumont began her artistic journey in 2014 when she opened her own store and art gallery, Delree’s Native Art Gallery in Didsbury, Alberta. After her husband's passing in 2018, Dumont made the choice to close her gallery doors, however this was not the end of her art journey, and she went on to complete her Art Therapy program at the Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts in 2020.

While her early work took on a realist style, she shifted her style in 2014 to embrace the style of pointillism. Her primary medium is acrylic, but some of her earlier works also include oil and watercolour work. Much of her artistic work draws on her experience as an Indigenous person. She also dabbles in beadwork, leatherwork and creating smudge fans.

In 2018 Dumont was invited to be part of an Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada event held at the Canadian embassy in Germany. As part of this invitation, Dumont painted live in front of an audience at the embassy. That same year she painted live at the Go Media 2018 conference in Calgary and other functions. Dumont completed a mural at the Burman University in Lacombe in 2019.

Dumont offers Pointillism Paint Nights or Days to teach others her style of pointillism. She is a Woman’s Traditional pow wow dancer and performs at local events. Dumont welcomes any opportunities to showcase her art work. She is currently working on opening a private art studio in her home.
