Kensington BRZ and PARK have partnered to help make the streets a little brighter for Calgarians during the winter months. #KensingtonBRIGHT, an all new interactive public art installation, is located on the corner of 10 Street Northwest and Gladstone Road at The Theodore. The installation is an outdoor exhibit that pedestrians can enjoy at their leisure while passing through the neighbourhood.
Drawing inspiration from the architecture and dichroic glass of the future Theodore condominium building, the attraction heavily relies on motifs of refracted light and prismic colours to draw in the viewer.
Visitors will be transported through a 190’, interactive light-adorned tunnel created by local artists Shannon Hoover and Indi City’s Angel Abichon and Alex Manitopyes. #LIVETHEODORE Light Tunnel, the first of its kind in Calgary, will change colour as pedestrians walk through and take in the sights of the installation. Complementing the tunnel are three multi-coloured murals by local artist Michelle Hoogveld featuring ten colours, one for each of Theodore’s ten stories.
#KensingtonBRIGHT is an initiative by the Kensington BRZ and PARK to provide Calgary artists with an opportunity to help make the streets a little brighter during the winter months. Keeping COVID-19 at the forefront, the light-inspired installation will allow the public to engage with art in a medium that is touch-free, while providing a photo-worthy opportunity for families and Kensington residents for the Holiday season and beyond.
