LOCAL & CANADIAN FASHION BRANDS WE'VE BEEN LOVING

From Leather Goods to Lacey Lingerie

With so many large fast fashion companies and big time retailers like Amazon at our fingertips, sometimes we overlook the incredible smaller businesses making a splash right here in Canada. This is especially true when it comes to the fashion industry which seems to have an endless stream of factory produced garments coming from all ends of the world. But as we’ve said before, supporting our local and Canadian creators is more important than ever and - we have to say - it’s not all that difficult with the talented designers making waves, not just in Canada, but around the world. We’ve rounded up three of our current favourite brands from across the realm - from evening wear and every day pieces to everything underneath - that you need to know!

1. PARTOEM

If you don’t already know the name Partoem, you may want to take note now. The Montreal based luxury leather goods brand has been gaining attention for its chic, timeless, origami inspired handbags and - get this - adorable coordinating dog accessories, so you can match with your favourite pooch. Even CAFA has taken notice - listing Partoem as a nominee for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in the accessory category.

2. SEWN DESIGNS

Out with mass factory-produced lingerie - in with feminine handmade pieces created right here in Calgary. When it comes to intricate lingerie, Sewn Designs has the art nailed down to a tee - just ask Elle Canada. Since 2013, this local shop has been handcrafting feminine undergarments that are so pretty you’ll want to show them off. And they don’t skimp on the details - with each piece often made from delicate lace and mesh, adorned with floral embroidery, then finished with gathered and scalloped hems. Perhaps the best part? It’s very reasonably priced so you won’t have to worry about breaking the bank when you want to treat yourself to a little lacy luxury.

3. RVNG COUTURE

One day we will all have a reason to get seriously dressed up again, and when that day comes, RVNG Couture is where we’ll be running for elegant and bold evening wear. This recent CAFA nominee made a splash at its virtual NYFW debut last fall at the creative helm of Jordan Stewart and has since been featured in publications like British Vogue.
